The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has implemented a significant change that impacts all individuals working with tax professionals. As of July 15, 2025, clients must now approve or initiate authorization requests through their CRA My Account in order to grant access to their representative. This move is part of CRA’s effort to enhance security and transition to a fully digital communication platform.
How to Authorize a Representative:
Follow these steps once signed in to your CRA My Account:
Go to your Individual CRA My Account
Select Profile from the left-side menu
Scroll to “Authorized representative(s)” and click Add
If you already see your representative, no action is needed
Click Start and enter the following:
Business Number
Authorization level: Update and View (Level 2)
Accounts: All Accounts
More details are available on CRA’s site under “How to Authorize a Representative.”
